Raya 2014

It’s the 9th day of Raya today. I hope it’s still not too late to wish you guys selamat hari raya!

One of the things I like about Raya (besides the food and visiting family and friends) is seeing families in colour-coordinating Raya outfit. And now with Instagram, Facebook and whatnot, it gets even better! I was on a “Liking” spree on Instagram during the first few days of Raya, double tapping on every photo of Raya OOTD with family that I saw on my feed.

So here’s our family’s Raya OOTD. Hehe.

IMG_9546My favourite Raya dish has got to be my mum’s lontong.

We celebrated Raya in KL this year. On the morning of Raya, we had our customary “bermaafan” session with the whole family in the living room. My parents would sit on the sofa and they would start the session first – mum salam and seek forgiveness from dad and vice versa. Then it was our turn (the siblings) to salam and seek forgiveness from our parents, then sibling to sibling, and not forgetting the little cucus as well (of course they only salam to get their angpau). I love this tradition. I know we should always seek forgiveness from our parents but having a special day just for that makes it even more special and meaningful (and because sometimes we tend to forget to say sorry or we just do it over the phone/sms). Too bad both my sisters weren’t around on the first day of Raya (they still owe me an apology. Haha) so it was just me and my brother.

After saying my sorries to my dad, he said sorry too for any lack in the way he raised and brought me up. It almost teared me up. My dad is a very stern and strict man (he’s way cooler now tho hehe). We grew up with rotan and bulu ayam, and we’d be punished when we did something bad. But I get where he’s coming from and now that I’m a parent myself, I totally understand that he did the best way that he knew how. Plus, my dad (and mum) didn’t have a quick access to the internet on the best parenting style and parenting advise and whatnot at that time like we all do now, so everything he did was based on his upbringing, his beliefs and his best intuition on how to handle us.

My brother made a little forgiveness speech to my mum that must have touched her deeply that when he hugged her, she broke into tears. I don’t know how serious the mess he got himself into (kidding, kidding!) but it was such a touchy moment. Made me realize even more how important it is to have a strong family bond.

I would also like to take this opportunity to apologize to you, my dear readers and followers for my wrongdoings and if I have ever offended you in any ways through my writings, emails and everything. I hope you guys are enjoying this Raya with your loved ones, but let’s not forget our brothers and sisters in Gaza. Do make du’a for them and do our best to show our support. It’s so heartbreaking to read and see the gruesome news and photos of what’s happening there. May Allah bless them and grant them Jannah.

Nora Danish for FashionValet

When I heard that FashionValet is collaborating with Nora Danish for their Raya collection, I was intrigued and couldn’t wait to see it. Nora Danish is one of those well-dressed Malaysian celebs so I was sure her collection would not disappoint.

FashionValet held a private fashion show for the exclusive collection at White Box Publika last Thursday. The collection is not yet launched to the public so I was among the first lucky ones to view the entire collection. If you’re into simple, classy design, you’re gonna love it!

And then the fashion show started. Behold, the Nora Danish x FashionValet collection!

Nora Danish for FashionValet features a monochrome collection that are simple yet classy and stylish. I would totally wear them! You can never go wrong with black and white, and I love that these pieces can also be worn as separates.

There are a total of 8 looks altogether and my favorites are these…

IMG_1514The peplums, especially the one on the left. Love how they paired it with pearl necklace. Looks classy!

IMG_8051I also have my eyes on this kurung with contrast panel and another one with the wrap top (couldn’t get a closer picture tho).

This entire collection by Nora Danish is exclusively for FashionValet and they are going to launch it tomorrow, 1st July 2014 on www.fashionvalet.com. I heard they’re affordable too. You really don’t want to miss this!

So remember, TOMORROW MORNING, 11AM.

Dipped Row Exclusive Trunk Show

I was invited to Dipped Row’s tea party and trunk show at The Cigar Room in Kenny Hills last week with my sister, Wani. To be honest, I have never heard of the brand before so I was pretty excited to check them out and feast my eyes (and hands) on the newly discovered jewellery brand over delectable desserts.

Coincidentally wore color-coordinating outfit with my sister. Ha!
(I’m wearing Tudung People Numa shawl, Zara tunic dress, Next white pants and Jessica Simpson platform sandals)

Dipped Row was founded by three childhood friends, Karina, Azura and Lina, who are self-confessed jewellery addicts. Every piece in the collection is personally curated to showcase a glimmer of their different personalities and style.

As I arrived at the door, rows of sparkly colorful necklaces caught my eyes from across the room so I went straight to the table where they showcased the collection and just stared admiringly at them. I went like, “Oh my, that is nice. Oooh, this one too. And this one. And that one!”. Every piece is drool-worthy!

Their Spring/Summer 2014 collection features distinctive yet versatile jeweleries; from simple dainty bracelets to head-turning statement necklaces that would surely complement and elevate any ensemble. Necklaces and earrings are embellished with crystal clusters, floral patterns and brightly colored resin stones, while the bracelets are swathed in exotic stingray, phyton and ostrich leather.

They have clutches too, all brightly bling-ed!

So in love with this Kaleidoscope Clutch Bag.

Of course there were yummy desserts (and other food). Man, I was so busy checking out the jeweleries that I forgot how hungry I was until I saw these.

These earrings cookies inspired by Dipped Row’s own collection looked so real – so sayang to eat!

My sister and I had been whatsapp-ing each other a few days before the event, telling how we were craving for yummy vanilla cupcakes, so you can imagine how beyond happy we were when we saw those pink cupcakes. They were so good!

I must say, the highlight of the event is the jewellery customization. Guests were given the opportunity to choose any piece of Dipped Row necklace that was laid on the table (there were a few different designs to choose from) and give it a little makeover by painting it with nail polish! How brilliant is that? I have never thought of doing that before.

The 2 most beautiful designs would win some goodies from Dipped Row so everyone started to work on their designs right away. Some even sketched a few design options on paper first with swatches of colors!

I chose this necklace, and so did my sister (no surprise there. We kinda have the same taste in almost everything :P)

Yes, hi sister. Bye sister. Hehe

I don’t have a lot of blue and purple necklaces so I decided to paint it in those 2 colors. I  should have just left it like this laa – just bits of purple and blue. Looked simple and nice, me think. But it was a lot of fun painting those crystals that I got carried away. I even wanted to paint the chains after finishing with the crystals, but thought that might be a bit too much.

The end result. Wasn’t sure if it was a good idea to add pink, but whatevs. It was fun playing jewellery designer! We even get to keep the necklace so yay (I’m so gonna padam the colors and paint a new one soon).

So guess who won this necklace-painting competition?

My sister! (and this other lady)

I have to admit, their necklaces looked impressive. The color combinations are beautiful and they didn’t even look like they were painted with nail polishes! (My sister’s necklace is the one of the right, by the way)

Dipped Row collection are available online at www.dippedrow.com. You seriously have to check them out! They are affordably-priced, between RM30 – RM400 and they offer fast delivery throughout Malaysia, as well as a few selected international countries.

Ariani Exclusive Preview

Earlier this month, I was invited to the exclusive preview of the new Ariani collection for 2014, held at DoubleTree by Hilton.

I’ve had a pretty challenging week (let’s not go into that) so it was nice to get away from all the chaos and mess for a few hours, and just sit back and enjoy fashion show and food and catch up with blogger friends.

The dress code was “kemas dan berstail” so I decided to wear this Rico Rinaldi kipas-front skirt from FashionValet, and teamed it up with a plain Mango top, Marshmallowscarf dual tone satin shawl and Zara nude heels. I’m simple like that.

The event started off with a speech by the Marketing Director of Ariani, Pn Norhana Sharkhan – or also known as Pn. Nona.

Here’s a little bit about Ariani – the brand was first established in April 2008 and is owned by the huge textile company, Jakel Sdn Bhd. Ariani is well known for their exclusive hijabs and headgear, and they currently have 20 outlets nationwide. They were also the ones who revolutionized the “tudung awning” or “tudung express” trend (or whatever you call it), and since then they have been producing various hijab designs to meet market demands.

This Exclusive Preview featured their latest hijab collections that were specially designed for this event. There were 2 segments – Chic Casual and Glam Exclusive. You can see a lot of fresh colors in both of these segments, using only the highest quality of materials such as Italian Chiffon, Italian Lycra and Thai Silk. What’s even more special about them is the detailing on each and every piece that exudes sophistication and elegance.

Models in the Casual Chic collection

The Chic Casual collection includes tudung Zafira Printed, Selendang Embroidery, Selendang Printed, Selendang Printed Stone, Selendang Crumple and Aleesya Beaded Block Heavy.

I love these printed shawls!

For the Glam Exclusive segment, the collections include Zafira Lace, Selendang Art Work, Selendang Stone,  Selendang Embroidery, Selendang Lace, Tiara Chiffon 2 Layer and Selendang Aleesya Lace. This segment featured lots of beadings and laces, perfect for weddings and other special occasions.

There was also a prize giving session for the lucky draw that was held last year in conjunction with the year end sale, as a token of appreciation to their customers. How nice of them! The prizes were iPhone 5s, exclusive Persian carpets and shopping vouchers worth RM1,000!

All 66 winners of the lucky draw

Later, they announced Ariani’s new ambassador for 2014 – Nurul Shuhada, the TV3 personality who had won Malaysian Top Host in 2005. She’s replacing Wardina as she’s migrating to Australia soon.

My sister and I managed to snap a photo with the gorgeous Wardina!

Then, there was an auction session, which to me, was the most interesting part of the event. There were 3 Ariani shawls up for bids, made exclusively just for this auction and they are not sold anywhere in this world. The shawls were beautifully made of high quality chiffon fabric with French lace and Swarovski crystal embellishments. The bidding for each shawl started at RM1,000!

This was my first time watching a live auction so I got excited as people started bidding on these shawls. “RM3,000! Do I hear RM3,500?”. “RM5,000 over here!”.

OMG it was like watching Confessions of A Shopaholic movie – you know, the scene where Becky’s signature green scarf was being auctioned, except this was for Ariani shawls and the bidders were not fighting with each other of course. Hehe.

First auction – this shawl reached RM5,000, bid by this lady!

Second auction – this lady won the bid at RM7,000!!

And last one, which was my fave of all 3, reached RM10,000!!! *jaw drops*

This auction was for a good cause so that made it even more meaningful. All proceeds from this auction go to charity. Alhamdulillah, may Allah bless them with more rezeki!

After the auction session, we were told that there would be a “surprise” at the end of the event. I thought they were going to give everyone free shawls from all of the Ariani Exclusive Preview collections that were being showcased earlier! Bahahaa.

Surprise! It was Dato’ Siti!

The ballroom was suddenly darkened and moments later, Dato’ Siti appeared out of nowhere (ok, obviously from the entrance door la but we couldn’t see), singing a song (forgot what song already, but I remembered it was an Indonesian song). Everyone was excited and started clapping and snapping pictures as she walked to the stage.

That wasn’t the only surprise. After the song, she appeared again on stage (this time in a different attire) and announced her shawl collaboration with Ariani – Siti Nurhaliza Collection by Ariani, which is already out today (21st March 2014)!

Models strutting down the red carpet in Siti Nurhaliza Collection by Ariani shawls. Love the vibrant colors, especially the green one!

I. Want. This.

Made some new blogger friends – Syahira and Sabrina

Back at home, I was surprised to find a beaded chiffon shawl in this gorgeous royal blue color inside the goodie bag that we received at the event, together with its matching inner neck (Ariani makes the best inner necks, in my honest opinion. It’s comfortable and stays nicely on your forehead and doesn’t make your face look that round, if you know what I mean), and a special detergent for shawls. Thank you so much Ariani!

I’ve own a couple of Ariani beaded shawls and inners, and even wore one at my sister’s wedding reception last year (view here and here). I’ve always loved the intricate beading and details on their shawls. Looks exclusive. Well, they are exclusive!

To view the rest of Ariani collections, you may log on to their website at www.ariani.my or visit their Facebook page at https://www.facebook.com/GaleriAriani.

Tea Party for the Bride-To-Be

This is obviously a long overdue post because the bride-to-be a.k.a my sister, has already been married for more than a month. Heee! I’m sooo slow at updating my blog these days (sorry!) and because I just got the photos last week.

So anyway… We celebrated my sister’s bridal shower about 2 weeks before her wedding, co-hosted by her bestie, Farhana. It was a Parisian Chic tea party theme at the Orchid Conservatory Room in Majestic hotel and it was simply wonderful!

Enjoy the pics! (photos from WOW Art & Photography – most of them anyways).

How fab are these glasses? My sister bought them just for the tea party.

Ayra was really excited when I told her that we were going to aunty Wani’s tea party. “Tea party? Like a princess tea party?”.

Here comes the bride-to-be…. and her bestie

One word: YUM.

Yes honey, that’s how you hold a teacup.

With them beautiful ladies

Queen for a day (well a month, more like)

Group photo time!

We were then led to the Drawing Room for some drawing activities. Hehe. No la. We started the party 1 hour late so we had to switch to another room as our time at the Orchid Conservatory Room was up.

Friends writing well-wishes for the bride

We ended the party with present-opening. Trust me, that was the only non-18SX present that she got that day (oh, and macarons)! Sheesh, these people. :P

Thanks for loaning me your diamante blouse, sis. Loved it!

I’m wearing Fleur shawl, my sister’s Warehouse diamante embellished blouse, Mango lace skirt and Jessica Simpson lace heels which you can’t see in the photo because my skirt is too long.

Ayra is wearing Zara Girl lace overlay dress, Cotton On Kids necklace and Axxezz bag. Raina on the other hand, is wearing babyGap ruffle dress and Gymboree daisy purse. Their bow shoes are from Party Princess and their hair accessories are handmade by me. I love how their outfits coordinated with Farhana’s son, Yusuf!
