A visit to a charity home

We had the opportunity to have buka puasa at a charity home – Rumah Amal Kasih Bestari (RAKB) – courtesy of Mamee, on one of the last few days of Ramadhan. Just so you know, Mamee has been around for 40 years and their products are all trusted halal. It’s even listed in JAKIM’s page.

Anyway, RAKB is a single storey bungalow, situated at Kampung Melayu Subang in Shah Alam. There are 20 primary school students under the age of 12 who are not only anak-anak yatim, but also fakir miskin & asnaf zakat as well. It was my very first time visiting a charity home!
Buka puasa menu:
Nasi lemak, ayam goreng, nuggets, kuih-muih and some fruits
The kids are all so well-disciplined. They lined up to get their food, baca doa makan and duduk atas lantai makan sama-sama. It kinda reminded me of a Summer Camp that I went to, more than a decade ago.
Mereka berbuka makan buah dan kuih sikit, then they performed the Maghrib prayer secara berjemaah. Lepas tu baru makan yang berat. Bagus kan?
Spot Ayra (she’s not wearing telekung)
One of the teachers told us that kalau bulan puasa, rezeki budak-budak tu murah. A lot of people came to give food and money to them almost every day. Tapi bulan tak puasa, jarang sangat. Sometimes the kids only ate eggs sebab tak cukup makanan. Sedih dengar.

Forgot this baby’s name already but he’s the youngest fella there.
Only 9 months old (Ayra & Raina jealous tengok mama dia dukung baby lain!)
The highlight of the night was the appearance of Mamee Monster!

The kids were excited to see the monster – peluk apa bagai with him (but not my girls. They were afraid of him!).

Each one of them received a Mamee goodie bag and duit Raya RM20! It was so thoughtful of Mamee, really. You can see how happy the kids were.

Aww… Salam cium tangan monster.

Ayra made some friends too. Then later, she refused to go back.
Menangis tak nak balik!
Anyway, RAKB still needs some help to improve the lives of the less fortunate kids as well as their facilities. It could be in any form – money, food, clothes, toys, etc. If you want to make a donation to RAKB, you can send a cheque or cash to their CIMB account:

Or you can contact the management of RAKB at kasihbestari@yahoo.com.
Again, I would like to thank Mamee for this opportunity!

Doing something charitable

I love watching The Oprah Winfrey Show. Every time I watch the surprise and giveaway segments, I couldn’t help feeling extremely excited and moved at the same time. She had given away hundreds of things – from books, gift cards and apparels to refrigerators, TVs, cameras, notebooks, diamonds, iPads and cars! Sure, it’d be so awesome to be the lucky audience to receive Oprah’s lavish giveaways but wouldn’t it be awesomer to be the one who’s giving them away?

One of the episodes I remember watching was when will.i.am from Black Eyed Peas saved families from foreclosure by donating (if I’m not mistaken) $350,000.00 to them! When Oprah announced to the families, “will.i.am is paying off your mortgages”, I think I almost cried. Despite all the bad things that are happening around the world, it’s great to know there are still people with such big hearts. I said to my husband, “Bestnya jadi kaya gila kan. Boleh tolong orang sesuka hati”. And then we went on dreaming to have our own foundation to help the less fortunate, if God blessed us with rezeki yang melimpah ruah and how I would give away designer bags to my readers. Heh. Seronok berangan!
Of course you don’t have to wait until you’re freaking wealthy to help others. It doesn’t matter how big or small you give; what matters most is your willingness. If you can’t help with money or things, doakan mereka pun dah memadai. Especially dalam bulan Ramadhan ni, pahala berlipat-ganda!
In conjunction with Raya, Mamee Double Decker Group would like to extend joy and happiness to the underprivileged. I’m sure you all are familiar with that brand, right? It has been around for 40 years! And all these while, their products have been trusted halal products. You can check it for yourself on JAKIM page here:http://www.halal.gov.my/v3/index.php/ms/direktori-halal-malaysia/126-direktori-halal-malaysia. Just type in PACIFIC FOOD PRODUCTS SDN BHD, click on the ‘Syarikat’ tab and then click on the icon beside the dates to see the list of halal certified products by Mamee.

Mamee Double Decker Group also offers a range of product from Snack to Beverage, such as Mamee Instant Noodle, Mister Potato, Corntoz, Mamee Monster, Double Decker, Smax, Funkees, Cheers Asian Drink, Cheers Carbonated Drink, Fruit Nation, Liteyo Yogurt Drink & Nutrigen. My favorite Mamee product is the Mamee SLLRRRP Kari Berapi (I’ve yet to try the Kari Xtra Pedas!).

I’m not usually a fan of curry-flavored instant noodles but I like this curry flavor because it’s a little spicy – I love anything spicy! I usually add a few dashes of ground black pepper for a little extra kick. Sllrrrp!!! Tho I don’t eat instant noodle that much, I do find myself craving for it once in a while. One of my guilty pleasures is eating instant noodle while watching a movie on my laptop in the middle of the night. Mmmm…. (Sheesh, now I’m hungry!)

Anyway, I will be doing something charitable with Mamee pretty soon. I will be visiting Rumah Amal Kasih Bestari in Shah Alam and have buka puasa with them! I’ve never been to a charity home before – all these while, I usually just pass my clothing items and baby toys to my mom and my mother-in-law to be donated to the less fortunate. This would be my very first time and I would like to thank Mamee for the opportunity. It’s something new for me and I look forward to it!

Bare Skin Day

It’s every woman’s dream to have crystal clear skin. Skin that is so clear, you don’t have to hide under makeup.

Yes I love makeup and it’s fun to experiment with different looks. But there are times when I just want to go “bare”. Besides, wearing too much makeup is not good for the skin. I mean, have you seen Hollywood actresses with and without makeup on? Some look so different, don’t they? Almost unrecognizable!

I don’t want to depend too much on makeup to make me look good. I was never a fan of heavy makeup anyways which is why I usually opt for light to medium coverage. When you wear makeup, you don’t just cover your skin. You actually cover your natural beauty as well.

Tang Wei, a Renowned Asian Actress who is also an SK-II user of 1 year said, “Skin that looks good without makeup – that, I believe, is what makes a woman truly beautiful”.

I totally agree. Even guys prefer natural beauty in women than made-up beauty, no?
(My husband does!)

Anyway, currently there’s a “bare skin day” campaign by SK-II. The aim of this campaign is to celebrate true beauty in women and I’m showing my support by wearing almost no make up for one whole day during my girls’ day out with my friend the other day.

The only makeup I had on my face were tinted moisturizer and mascara
(baby powder and lip balm don’t count as makeup right?)

I usually can’t leave the house without eyeliner, but not that day.
I’m baring it all!

Even my friend was wearing very little makeup.
I don’t think I’ve ever been to shopping malls with almost no makeup before. That was my first time! It felt a bit awkward at first. My skin felt so… bare. I was a little conscious of how I looked like without makeup, but not for long. It actually turned out great. I didn’t have to keep on checking myself in the mirror for any makeup smudges; I didn’t even need to touch up or anything. I could eat and shop freely without worrying about my makeup!

And best of all, I could get ready in just 30 minutes!

You can take your own pledge to bare your true skin too, just for a day, and who knows you could win an SK-II product that could transform your skin to crystal clear! Just so you know, only SK-II products contain PiteraTM – a miracle ingredient that improves all 5 dimensions of skin which includes firmness, wrinkle resilience, refined texture, spots control and radiance.

There was an observation made in a sake brewery in Japan, somewhere in the mid 1970′s. The workers had extraordinarily soft and youthful hands, even the elderly ones. Turned out that the workers’ hands were constantly in contact with a liquid produced during the sake fermentation process and scientists concluded there was “something” in the fermented liquid that had amazing power to renew and nurture skin. That “something” is PiteraTM!

PiteraTM is a concentrated liquid that’s rich in vitamins, organic and amino acids, and minerals. Its combination of nutrients is similar to that found in healthy, new skin. I was surprised to find out that PiteraTM brings so many benefits to skin. It helps moderate the natural functions of skin, replenishes skin’s moisture, smoothes skin surface texture, helps to make skin crystal clear, soothes sunburned skin, balances skin’s pH and achieves a good balance of sebum. No wonder the SK-II Facial Treatment Essence is called “Miracle Water”!

On top of that, the natural bio-ingredient with more than 50 micro-nutrients seemed to protect against stress and damage that we encounter daily. I’ve heard a lot of great reviews about this product and now I feel like adding the “Miracle Water” back to my daily facial routine, especially because of this promotion:

This PiteraTM Essence Set includes a Facial Treatment Essence 75ml, Facial Treatment Clear Lotion 40ml and 1 pc Facial Treatment Mask. It’s a great starter kit and it’s available at all SK-II counters.

I’ve shown my support for this campaign, now it’s your turn! You can do your own pledge to bare your skin for a day and submit your entry here. The 20 (yes, TWENTY) best entries will win an SK-II Facial Treatment Essence (150ml) a.k.a the “Miracle Water” worth RM359. C’mon ladies, let’s show off your natural beauty!

My New York Skin Solutions facial experience

I cringe when people tell me how nice and flawless my skin looks.
It. is. NOT.

I may not have pimples but that doesn’t make my skin flawless. If you look close enough, you can see chicken pox scars, blackheads, whiteheads, redness, dark circles, fine lines and my 7 moles! I used to be so rajin to take care of my skin – I never skipped the 4-step daily skincare routine (cleanse, tone, essence, moisturize), I scrubbed and masked twice a week and went for facials about once a month.

But nowadays?

Daily skincare routine pun kadang-kadang buat only once a day (too tired, no time, blah blah blah). Scrub and mask once a month. Facials? Umm….once in a blue moon. I guess when you have kids, you tend to forget to take care of yourself because you’re busy taking care of the kids!

Anyway I was recently invited to try out the facial at New York Skin Solutions in Mid Valley. Clearly I was in need of one because the last time I had facial was 3 months ago!

It was my first time there and when I arrived, I was greeted cheerfully by the consultants (I think there were about 8 of them). I have never been greeted like that! The treatment comprises of computerized skin scan, personal skin consultation, followed by the facial treatment.

I was led to this room to do the skin scan and consultation

Had to fill in the form and answer some questions about health and lifestyle
since it was my first time there

The consultant asked what are my main concerns about my skin and I told her “dark circles, fine lines and uneven skin tone”. She then took a pistol-like device and started scanning my skin.

The result was shown on the computer and OMG it looked scary! You can see every tiny detail of your skin that the naked eye can’t see – even the fine bulu muka!

On the left is the external skin, and the right side is internal skin.
See those black dots? Those are my white/blackheads! T_T

I was told that my skin is dehydrated and that I have pigmentation near my eye area! *shocked*. The consultant asked me, “Do you wear sunscreen?”. Uh-oh. I don’t wear one. Must. Wear. Sunscreen. From now on!

Then the consultant briefed about their facial treatment. Each treatment at New York Skin Solutions is tailor-made to penetrate skin cells for internal skin repair, something that the usual skincare product can’t do. There’s also external skin renewal to reveal a clear, healthy-looking skin.

And then the facial began!

For my skin, the consultant opted for Collagen Treatment. There were the usual deep cleansing, exfoliation, extraction, facial massage, etc… and also a few extra steps – she applied vitamin E and collagen on my skin and used some kind of a device to help penetrate the collagen into my skin. There was skin softening involved in this facial too. It’s something like steaming but it was way better because it was cooling and soothing. It’s like someone sprayed a cool mist on your face. Then there were 3 types of masks applied in this facial – first was the hydrating sheet mask, then the Honey mask together with the Cold mask. Love the latter ones! My skin felt so moisturize and “clean”. There were neck, shoulder and back massages too. It was so relaxing. Just what I needed!

Then once again after the facial, I did the skin scan to see the difference.

Right side is my skin before the treatment, and left side is after the treatment.
You can tell the difference straight away even if you’re not a pro!

That’s the scan result for my nose.
No more “black dots”!! :D

The overall treatment took 3 hours, by the way. I was given a little something before leaving.

Travel kit!

I did the facial at night and the next day, I woke up with a much better looking skin – it was all glowing and most importantly, my nose was licin from all those white and blackheads. It made applying makeup easier too! Check out New York Skin Solutions’ website if you want more info about skin problems and treatments. They have a solution for every skin problem. You can also “Like” their Facebook fan page to get their latest news and updates on promotions and offers.

Oreo Daddy Dunk

Went to Oreo Daddy Dunk event at One Utama to celebrate Father’s Day two Sundays ago.

The first thing I saw was this massive queue. I was like, what’s happening? Why are they queuing? I tried to have a closer look and…. of course.

Aaron Aziz was on the stage! People (or rather, girls) were queuing up for his autograph and pictures. I bet most of them were fans of Nora Elena, the TV series kot. I didn’t join the queue tho. Ramai sangat! Plus, it was hot and I was thirsty.

I was more interested with this:

Oreo Milkshake!

Oreo Milkshake is my favorite! 1 small cup was not enough so I had 3. One of these days, I’m gonna try to make my own Oreo Milkshake using the recipe.

While enjoying the cups of Oreo Milkshake, I had a look around. There were several games for dads, kids and even moms.

These dads had to eat the Oreo cookie from their forehead without using their hands.
Macam susah jer.

The kid who can lick the cream in the Oreo cookie the fastest would win this game.
Can you guess who won?

The comel-est kid! ;D
But each of them received a prize.

This is a game for dads and their kids.
The kids randomly picked out a card with a word on it, handed it to their dads
and they have to build as many simpulan bahasa as they can.

But the most interesting game was the Daddy Dunk, where you literally dunk your dad in it!

But it wasn’t just for dads la. Anyone who wants to be dunked can play it.

1 2 3…. whooosh!

Into the pool of balls!

Oreo cookies were sold cheaper than retail price that day – RM2.99!
I bought 4 packets.

Remember the Facebook app where you can create a personalized t-shirt for dads? There’s an online code when you want to redeem it at the event and I forgot about it. Dang! So instead of the personalized t-shirt, dapat the normal white one. Takpe la ;p

At the counter to redeem the t-shirt

Some of the customized t-shirt designs.

At 3.30pm, Aaron Aziz appeared once again on stage with some of the game participants (ladies of course). Did you know he’s the new ambassador for Oreo?

“Handsome la Aaron Aziz ni!”, I said.

Hubby rolled his eyes. Then he said, “Kenapa dorang tak panggil Lisa Surihani ker, Siti Saleha ker. Baru lah adil”.

Uhh hello, this is Father’s Day event. Mereka takde kena-mengena langsung! ;p

Anyway, hope y’all had a great father’s day celebration!
