Pledge for Tomorrow

I love this photo of my family.

Just us siblings and our parents together and no one else….

Okay, and my bro-in-law. Well, it was taken a few years ago, the day he married my sister, so of course he had to be in it :P.

My point is, I love it when the whole family gets together – be it at family gatherings, weddings, dinner or just hanging out. Because it rarely happens, now that we are all married and have our own little family. We tend to spend less time with them because we are busy with our own life.

Now that I’m a parent myself, I’m starting to understand everything that they have done for me – the cans and cannots, curfews and all. It may all have seemed a little cruel to me back then, but now I understand why they did that. I guess being a mother teaches you a lot of things, and one of them is appreciating your own parents.

Sometimes I miss being a kid. I miss having my mom and dad around. I miss having my mom cook my favourite dishes every day. I miss going holiday together. Sigh. Those good ol’ days.

AIG is having a contest where they want to encourage participants to make a pledge to spend more time with their parents. I think it is a very good initiative from the company to do activities like this that reminds us to be good to our parents.

Here’s what you need to do to join the Pledge for Tomorrow:

  1. Make a pledge to spend more time with your parents.
  2. Fulfil your pledge and take a photo of your special moment with your parents.
  3. Upload your photo to your Instagram with hashtag #pledgefortomorrow.

There will be 5 winners selected and each winner will be able to enjoy a lovely day with 9 other family members at one of these 3 family outings:

  1. High tea session at a 5-star hotel
  2. A family trip to Bukit Gandah Elephant Sanctuary
  3. A family cooking session with Le Cordon Bleu trained chef

Contest runs from 7th October till 30th November 2015. For more info about the contest, log on to www.pledgefortomorrow.com.

As for me, I pledge to visit my parents at least twice a month, and to cook together with my mom for the family, just like the old days – where my mom will be happily passing down all her knowledge as we cook, and the satisfied expression on my dad’s face when he tastes the food.

Let’s pledge to spend more time with our parents, people! It would mean the world to them 🙂

From flat to fabulous

Attended Dove’s event at DoubleTree by Hilton last month. They just launched their latest hair care range, the new Dove Volume & Nourishment.

I don’t know about you, but I’ve been struggling with flat hair almost all my life. I was born with naturally fine, wavy hair (pretty much like Raina’s), but as I get older, I noticed my hair becomes flatter and finer. The case gets worse especially after spending a whole day out because after wearing hijab for a whole day, my hair is further flatten with heat and grease. I never really tried anything tho because I’m so lazy and couldn’t be bothered to (heh), but Dove’s new Volume & Nourishment hair care range sounds pretty promising and simple.

I’ve heard of women doing back combing, using curling irons and even braiding their hair and leaving it overnight just so they can wake up with volumized hair. I’ve never done any of those as I wear hijab, but I can totally understand their concerns! I suppose having a bad hair day is kind of like the same as having a bad tudung day as it affects our confidence, or probably worse!

IMG_8226They showed a live experiment of how the new Dove Shampoo and Conditioner instantly adds volume to hair after washing.

The new Dove Volume & Nourishment hair range with Oxyfusion Technology contains oxygen-infused ingredient that instantly dissolves into the hair, giving deep down moisture, while adding up to 95% of volume, so women with dry, flat hair can have smooth, bouncy hair without having to worry about it being weighed down, even hours after washing. It’s a hair care savior! Best part is, this shampoo and conditioner is gentle enough for every day use. Smells nice and fresh too!

The Dove Volume & Nourishment range retails for only RM15 each for the shampoo (340ml) and conditioner (340ml), and is available nationwide. If you’d like more info on the products, or even get the product samples, you can log on to www.dovehair.com.my.

Now it’s my turn to try this out and volumized my hair! 🙂

Royale Of The Day

There is something just so satisfying about a bowl of steaming hot instant noodle, eaten in the middle of the night, while watching your favourite TV series (for me, it would be The Vampire Diaries). The steaminess of the flavourful broth and the slippery springy noodles just gets me through so many emotions. It’s my ultimate guilty pleasure.

I usually prefer Tom Yam flavour for its hot and spiciness, but I recently tried a new flavour from Maggi’s latest range – Maggi Royale Penang Seafood Curry. Now I don’t usually like curry flavour for my instant noodle, but this one is just different. It actually tastes like real curry. I like!

Maggi is undoubtedly one of the biggest manufacturers of instant noodles in the world. In fact, it’s so famous in Malaysia that we Malaysians even call instant noodles as “maggi”, not necessarily referring to the brand. The Maggi Royale is their latest premium range and once you taste it, you could really tell the difference. The noodles are springier, and the seafood broth is rich and creamy, with real toasted belacan. OMG I’m salivating as I’m typing this. #dugaanpuasa hehe.

IMG_7225It comes with 3 packets of seasonings – prawn seasoning powder, seafood chili paste and creamer.

Usually when I make instant noodles for myself, I just add an egg and that’s it. But the other day, I decided to add more ingredients to the Maggi Royale Penang Seafood Curry as it was for buka puasa (was too tired to cook as we went out shopping from morning till late afternoon) and I want to look like I actually made some cooking effort *ehem*.

IMG_7223I added these extra ingredients: prawns, fish balls, fried tofu and hard boiled eggs.

For this Maggi Royale, I cooked the noodles and the broth separately. It’s important to use the right amount of water for the broth; so measure the water according to the packet instructions and then bring the water to a boil. I added the prawn seasoning powder and seafood chili paste, fried tofu, fish balls and prawns before adding the creamer. You know it’s ready when the prawns turned pink.

Place the noodles in a bowl and pour the broth. Breathe in the aroma and dig in!

IMG_6639I served it with hard boiled eggs and sambal for that extra kick of flavour.

My husband almost thought I made this seafood curry from scratch because he said it didn’t taste “instant”. It’s really that good!

Did I entice to having a bowl of Maggi Royale right now? Give it a try! You can try out the recipe that I’ve created here (ahem), or better still, make the noodles with your own twist to create your #Royaloftheday.

Road Trip Around The City

It was 6am on a beautiful Sunday morning. I am usually not awake yet at this hour on weekends, but that day was an exception. My daily routine mainly revolves around indoor activities with my children, so it’s great to have something to do outdoors once in a while. We had made plans to have a picnic at Putrajaya Botanical Garden and proceeded to prepare our food and drinks in a picnic basket that morning.

I love that the Honda CR-V’s boot space is large and spacious! We managed to pack everything in the boot, together with the girls’ bicycles.

Our next activity involved animal petting at Farm In The City. Even if it is short distance, travelling with young children can be pretty challenging but I like that the Honda CR-V has all that my family needs in one car. To make the car ride even more enjoyable, I played our favourite songs from my iPhone, thanks to the built-in USB port.

The animals in Farm in the City are free to roam in their own enclosures and my girls really enjoyed feeding and touching the animals. They even get to do a little bit of ‘longkang’ fishing and ride on a pony!

After that, we went to the newly opened shopping centre in Cyberjaya, D’Pulze for lunch. We discovered an indoor playground for kids and after about 2 hours of jumping around and diving into the ball pits, it was time to head to our last destination of the day.

We took the girls to Putra Square in Putrajaya for a bicycle ride. It was such a great spot for family activities with a breathtaking view of the Putra Mosque.

At the end of our road trip, we were quite surprised that our tank was still half full as we only pumped RM50 of fuel. My husband was pretty sure that the ECON mode that he used has helped to improve the fuel efficiency – all the more reason to love this car.

Ariani Lebaran 2015

Salam Ramadhan all!

It’s the third day of Ramadhan today. Alhamdulillah, so far so good. But time flies so fast, huh. It felt like I just wished you guys happy new year last month… and suddenly half a year has passed! Let us strive to make the most of this Ramadhan so that it doesn’t slip away just like that.

Anyway, a few days before Ramadhan, I attended Ariani Lebaran Fashion Show at Mandarin Oriental KL. It was my second time attending Ariani’s fashion show and I was looking forward to it because their events are always so big and grand.

This year’s fashion show showcased over 40 designs from their ‘Graceful Lebaran’ and ‘Lavish Lebaran’ collections.
