As you all know, we recently have a cat (but she lives outside).
My girls loves cats and would play with the cat every single day, at least twice a day. You know what that means? It means I need to be extra alert with them!
I once caught Raina touching the cat and then she touched her face with the same hand that touched the cat! I went hysterical. Ok, I might overreacted a bit, but it’s about hygiene la. I’m a bit particular with that.
Ok fine, I am VERY particular with that… but all moms are, right?
So now I taught my girls that they need to wash their hands with soap after playing with the cat and especially before eating. Ayra once said to me, “My hands tak dirty, mama. It’s clean. See?”.
I later explained to her that we cannot see germs but it’s there, especially after touching cats and other things. I’m not sure if she fully understands, but now after playing with the cat or after using the toilet, she would say, “Nak wash hand. Gims gims”. (Gims is her way of saying germs by the way).
Hand washing is the most basic step to personal hygiene and it’s very important to start early. We all know kids are active and they touch every single thing their hands can get. It’s so easy for the germs on their hands to end up in their mouths! And because of this, Lifebuoy is initiating Global Hand Washing Day to raise the awareness on the importance of washing hands with soap, especially before eating.
Lifebuoy would like you to pledge to wash your hands with soap before eating and they are targeting to collect at least 50,000 pledges in total. If this goal is achieved, they will contribute RM10,000 to improve the toilet facilities of selected schools throughout Klang Valley.
